Michelin restaurants that welcome your dog, in Paris

France has no national rule that keeps dogs out of restaurants: it's left to each owner, and in Paris many say yes. A small dog settled under a bistro table, or a well-behaved one at your feet in a smart dining room, is a common sight.

These 64 Michelin restaurants say they welcome dogs, 62 of them inside, not only on the terrace, and every one is well reviewed by diners. They cover every kind of meal: neighbourhood bistros in the 11th and Montmartre, polished one-star rooms around Saint-Germain and the Invalides, and two three-star restaurants, Arpège and Le Pré Catelan.

Policies can change, and a restaurant may limit dogs at busy services, so mention yours when you book. 60 of them take bookings online, which makes that easy.

How we chose

Every Michelin restaurant in Paris that says it welcomes dogs is here, as long as diners rate it highly.

Nearly all of them let dogs inside. The few that only allow them on the terrace are marked as such and listed last in each part of town.

Beside each one you'll see our own read on how formal it feels, drawn from publicly available descriptions, reviews and photos. It runs from Chill (come as you are) and Easy (a proper restaurant that stays relaxed) to Smart (polished, people make an effort) and Fancy (full ceremony). Tap it for more. Most here are Easy or Smart, and a handful of Fancy dining rooms say yes too.

Canal Saint-Martin, Oberkampf, Bastille & Belleville (10th–12th, 19th, 20th) 19

Bistros and wine bars across the 10th and 11th, where a dog under the table is nothing unusual, alongside several one-star rooms in the 11th.

Left Bank: Latin Quarter, Saint-Germain & the Eiffel Tower (5th–7th) 13

Saint-Germain and the Invalides: the polished end of dog-friendly Paris, with Arpège among them.

Louvre, Grands Boulevards & the Marais (1st–4th) 10

Starred rooms around the Bourse and the Palais Royal, and relaxed bistros in the Marais.

Champs-Élysées, Passy & Batignolles (8th, 16th, 17th) 11

Two grand addresses in the Bois de Boulogne, and quieter neighbourhood rooms in Batignolles.

Opéra, Pigalle & Montmartre (9th, 18th) 7

Bib Gourmand bistros and small rooms in South Pigalle and up the hill in Montmartre.

Chinatown, Montparnasse & the 15th (13th–15th) 4

A few in the 13th to 15th, a couple of them welcoming dogs on the terrace only.

Questions

Are dogs allowed in restaurants in France?

Yes, at the owner's discretion. There's no national ban, and each restaurant decides for itself. Food-hygiene rules keep animals out of kitchens, not dining rooms.

What's the etiquette for bringing a dog?

Keep your dog on a lead and under the table, and let the restaurant know when you book. Many will bring a bowl of water if you ask.

What does 'terrace only' mean?

A few restaurants welcome dogs outside but not in the dining room. We mark those on each listing, so check before booking on a cold evening.
